The One Who Awoke The World
A fantasy/concept piece for a competition based on the upcoming game from From Software. The challenge ( set by youtuber VaatiVidya) was to design a boss for the game based on various folklore, I used Norwegian and Irish folklore to inform my piece. Here is the piece as well as some pictures of progress.
Fin. You can tell because I added my sign in the corner.
Final minor adjustments and finalizing the strings opting for something simpler.
Some almost final Adjustments, a little value change here and there. I also made the whole thing darker on the whole. The major change at this point is changing the strings on the MC. Thought they were too much before.
After playing with more levels and various values I decided to leave it grey scale. Leaving the face of the MC a little orange to really mark it as a central point of the piece. Oh I also trimmed off the borders, I wanted to try that out.
I decided on how to approach the face. dark with a little light in the middle, hopefully bringing focus towards that area. Other than that more adjustments and playing with levels. I also changed the rider down below. Actually I just redrew him.
more painting refinement. Not really liking the whole thing at this stage but I power through.
The MC begins. Also added more mist.
Some more painting. Starting with the background helps me light the main characters and set the mood.
I began to do some greyscale painting, at this point I'm undecided on whether I want to add colour later.
My final lines, or at least what I would was happy with at that point.
